Our Nursing Home Recital
Merry Christmas!
Part of the joy of the holiday season is giving & sharing! Last evening many of our students shared their musical talent by playing two holiday songs for the residents of a local nursing home! The staff of the facility provided us with a yummy pasta dinner! All of our students did a terrific job performing, dining & visiting with the residents. Our residents LOVED have our students visit & play the piano for them. MANY of them sang & hummed along while our students played.

Ellie & Grant
Miss Ellie performed "Ellie's Song About the Polar Express" for our audience before she fell asleep! (Such a big day for a 4 year old... earlier that day her entire ballet class performed for all of the parents!) Great job Ellie!
This year was Grant's 3rd year of performing in the Note-worthy Experiences Piano Recital. He played, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Deck The Halls" (without his glasses - oops!). Great job Grant! Next year remind your mom (me) to make sure you have your glasses!

After our recital, all of our friends & families joined us for desserts & punch! Miss Lailany baked some terrific cupcakes in her free time when she wasn't preparing to play "Feliz Navidad" & "Away In The Manger" for our audience. As you can see in this photo, Sophia & Ellie truly enjoyed them! Thanks Lailany!

Thanksgiving
Hello all!
I hope this finds you enjoying the preparations for your Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends. This year, I will have the opportunity to celebrate with our families in Ohio. We will also be fortunate enough to celebrate my new nephew's Baptism over the holiday weekend. (so our Thanksgiving will be a little extra special this year!)
This year has been another incredible year for my family and our Note-worthy Experiences family. I firmly believe that the Note-worthy Experiences students (all 38) and their families are an extended part of my family! I know that all of us have crossed paths for a reason and I am grateful for the opportunity. Although the students come into my home for me to teach them piano lessons; I still learn a great deal from each and everyone of them! Thank you!
As I continue on my cyclone like path in preparing all of our students for our recitals. While I put all of the finishing touches on the logistics of the recital; I will try my best to keep it all in perspective and appreciate all of the fun we have had together this year! I am already looking forward to a fun filled year of learning & performing in 2010!

Lesson week of 11/2 & Housekeeping Items
Hello all!
I opted to post quite a bit of information here instead of my regular group e-mail format for a number of reasons, please provide me with your feedback! Some of you check the blog or Facebook more frequently actual e-mail. Once I post information here, I can easily post it on my Facebook wall and it is sent to my e-mail in box which I can then easily forward to all of you. In a true urgent emergency, I would contact each of you individually by telephone (as I did for some of you yesterday).
As many of you already know, I canceled lessons today (11/2) due to my son having a fever and a cough. Late this afternoon, my daughter started with a fever. Both of them will be fine and are doing quite well. I have an appointment for my daughter in the morning. I will know more then.
I will not be offering make up lessons on Tuesday (11/3) as I previously mentioned.
I will keep you posted regarding lessons on Wednesday & Thursday this week.
Until this fall, I had only canceled lessons 1 other time in 2 1/2 years (due to my daughter being ill last fall). I apologize that so far this fall I have had to cancel twice. However this fall seems to have been an unusual fall for many of our friends and families. The other week I had 11 of my piano students out sick! That was a record!
All Recital Participation Fees (due 10/31) & Late Lesson Payments will be due when your scheduled lessons resume.
Please let me know via e-mail (if you have not already done so) if you plan to participate in the Annual Winter Recital on Saturday, December 12th. Our mandatory rehearsal will be on Tuesday, December 8th
As a reminder, I will not be teaching on Thursday, November (Thanksgiving Day) 26 or Thursday, December 17th. (I will offer make up lessons on Friday, December 18th.) I will not be teaching Wednesday, December 24th - Sunday, January 3rd. All lessons will resume as scheduled the week of January 4th. As you become aware of any lesson schedule changes due to your holiday travels, please let me know via e-mail.
Due to the illnesses and scheduling conflicts for some of you and the illnesses of my own children, some students will have had lengthy breaks in between lessons. For those students & any others who are interested, please complete the following homework assignments:
- Become "The Master" of 2 or 3 previously assigned songs. (Select 2 or 3 songs & brush them up! Work on the dynamics, fingering, rhythms etc.)
- Go to http://www.gmajormusictheory.org/Freebies/freebies.html OR http://www.8notes.com/piano_sheet_music.asp
- Then select sheet music that coordinates with the level of lesson books that you are working on. Print music that interests you & begin working on it. (There is Hanukkah, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Classical, Patriotic, Jazz, Blues, Religious, & Traditional Music on there and much more!) I will help when lessons resume
- Complete an internet search (with Parental Consent) on the composer and or title of one your recent songs.
Thank you for all of your prayers & warm wishes for our family!
Thank you for your patience & understanding!

- Hooray to Miss Jaimeson for playing the piano for her entire class on Friday & doing a terrific job! She has now joined the ranks of a few of our other pianists who have played for their classes at school including Julie, Alison, and Carson!
- Thank you to Jeannie & Morana for your patience & flexibility & understanding!

- Congratulations to Miss Kendall for getting a new piano!
- Best wishes to Mr. Cody & his mother Helen - we will all miss you!
Fall is almost here! I LOVE fall! It is my favorite (and busiest) time of the year! Cool air, colorful leaves, football, back to school, schedules, routines and preparations for our Annual Winter Recital!
I have been consumed with getting my own family in the back to school routine, orientations, and flag football! (Yes, flag football does consume us with a "senior player" and a coach all living in our house!) Oh, and some technical difficulties have been a speed bump here too! My wireless laptop has been out of commission for 1 1/2 weeks and counting and not all of my iphone applications are working. So thanks for being patient!
Note-worthy Experiences has been super busy with getting everyone settled in their fall lesson schedules and..... a formal Fall Newsletter. For the summer, the newsletter was informal and in an e-mail format. This one is a word document attachment and is the longest one to date. All families who currently have their student enrolled with Note-worthy Experiences will receive an e-mail attachment by the end of this week. If you wish to receive a copy please let me know. I have an e-mail group list of current families that I forward information to on a frequent basis. These e-mails include open lesson times, reminders about my vacations, or forwards regarding concerts, etc. If you wish to be included in these e-mails, please let me know.
Have a great week!

The Nursing Home Recital
Thank you to the 11 students who performed at a local nursing home on Tuesday! Carson, Ellie, Danita, Arden, Fayth, Sarah, Rachel, Lailany, Emiliana, Julie & Emily all did a terrific job! Unfortunately, I am not able to post the photo from my phone onto the blog (without more research). I will forward the photo to each participant's e-mail address. The residents truly enjoyed the performances. Several residents asked when our students would be back to perform again! I promised them that we would be back in December to practice our songs for the 3rd Annual Winter Recital - they were delighted! Congratulations to each of our students for sharing their musical talents and bringing joy to to residents.

The 3rd Annual Note-worthy Experiences Winter Recital
Drum roll please.....
It is official! We have a date & location for our 3rd Annual Note-worthy Experiences Winter Recital! For details, please refer the e-mail newsletter.
For me, preparing for this event is truly a lot of fun! (I guess that is why I start working on it so early!) I love watching the students do their very best on a grand piano in front of their friends and family! I love seeing everyone dressed up in their holiday best! I love watching them accomplish something that they once thought was impossible. I love watching them take their applause's with pride! I love watching them come back to the front to receive their certificates, flowers & gifts with a look of relief on their faces! (Relief that I am not asking them to play their songs ONE MORE TIME!) However, my absolute favorite part of the event is watching the faces of the parents & spouses beam with pride when their student is performing & they are taking all of those photos! That is the priceless part of the event! I know the students can do it! I get to see their excitement at the bench during lessons & rehearsals, but I don't usually see the reactions of the parents & spouses until the recital! I guess it is a lot like those who prefer to watch the groom at a wedding when the bride comes down the aisle!?!
Thank you in advance for making our 2009 Recital simply the best!

On-line piano lessons
Hello Pianists & Families!
In the past 2 years of teaching piano lessons, I have had several students who have enjoyed learning to play songs via "you tube". Our talented, Miss Kaleigh recommends the instructor on this this video clip. This instructor has a website with more pop songs. He mentions his website several times within the video. If you are interested, check it out! Have fun!

Please feel free to pass along your favorite websites & I will pass them on to our group!

Awards & Rewards
Hello!
Note-worthy Experiences is focused on positively reinforcing all of the efforts our students during lessons with countless stickers. This year we are going to reward students for their accomplishments in school and for their dedication to piano lessons. At our Annual Recital, I am going to include the following awards:
I believe that all of our students are talented pianists! Our students have become talented pianists through hard work during their lessons & practicing their homework assignments.
I believe that school academics are important for our pianists too! Consequently, I have created a "Good Grades Jar" and placed it in the piano room. Each student who brings a report card full of A's and B's (or the equivalent there of) can place their name on a piece of paper & place it in the jar. At our Recital, we will draw one name from the jar - the winner will receive a special prize. Please remind your pianist to bring their Report Card to their next lesson.
At the time of our Recital, many of our students will have been studying at Note-worthy Experiences for over 1 or 2 years. To celebrate these accomplishments, our students will be given 1 or 2 year music pins at the Recital.

Ballet & Piano
Did you know that Note-worthy Experiences Piano Students participate in activities outside of piano?
Here is proof that our students are not required to practice their piano assignments during ALL of their free time! Miss Julie & Miss Ericka (in the 1st photo) danced in four numbers at every one of the four productions put on by Miss Pat's Stage Door Studio this past weekend. Miss Ellie (in the 2nd photo with Miss Julie) danced in one number at each of the four productions. Great job girls!
Please send us photos of our other Note-worthy Experiences Students participating in their favorite extra curricular activities! Please send us photos of our students playing piano at home or here! We would love to share your photos with the rest of our Note-worthy Experiences Families!

Hooray for Fayth
Congratulations to Miss Fayth for hitting a "Piano Home Run"! Fayth completed her Piano Adventures Primer Level Series of books earlier this evening. This accomplishment was achieved while making another huge sacrifice... Fayth left her softball game early in order to attend her piano lesson to show me how hard she had worked on finishing her books! She did it! Now that is what I call a "Piano Home Run!"

National Nursing Home Week
Thank you to Ilene, Alison, Danielle, Erika, Julie, Danita, Cody, Ellie & Grant!
Thank you to our 9 Note-worthy Experiences Students and their parents who helped the residents of our local nursing home celebrate National Nursing Home Week!
Thank you to the residents & staff for inviting us into your home for a delicious dinner and for being a terrific audience for our recital.
Our recital was a wonderful success! After the recital, so many residents thanked us & told us how much they loved the performers & their performances! Thank you for sharing your musical talents with others!
It was wonderful to see the residents humming and singing along. It was terrific to see the students' proud faces!
As the teacher, I was so proud of our students who had never performed in front of an audience before! I was so proud of our more seasoned students who encouraged their peers. Of course, I love to watch our more seasoned students improve each and every time they perform in front of an audience!
Thank you to the parents who were able to juggle their family schedules to allow our students to join us this evening!
I do not have any photos to post from this event, as we are not allowed to photograph or video graph at the nursing home for the confidentiality of the residents. Thank you for understanding!
I am looking forward to more of our students joining us at the nursing home this fall!

Play A Thon Winner
Hello pianists & families!
Drum roll please.......................
Our 2009 Note-worthy Experiences Hannah Young Play A Thon Winner with the most pledges raised is the lovely Miss Fayth!
Hooray Fayth!
Fayth won a gift certificate to Twin Rivers Music in Easton from me!
I am proud of all of you who played, raised money, pledged money & supported our pianists. Together we had 16 performers, raised $419 and had a huge crowd gathered around us! I heard a lot of positive comments from people I have never seen before as they were walking by! I love the fact that some people who didn't even know us stopped to watch & listen! There were some rough spots in the process - but at the end of it all, our pianists did a fantastic job & raised money for a worthy charity! We have to give our students a lot of credit for having the courage to perform in a public setting. (I know I was super nervous to play my part in my duet with Grant!)

Play A Thon Tomorrow
Hello!
I just returned from the mall. The piano that the Note-worthy Experiences Students will be performing on is located near the Bon Ton Entrance, but closer to Payless Shoes & Famous Footwear. There are two benches & several chairs set up by a Young Chang Ebony Grand Piano. There is not a sound system set up at this location. Please check in at the Registration Table (Near GNC) 15 minutes prior to performing. All donations need to be submitted at the time of registration.
Thank you!
See you at the mall!

a quote from a piano parent
Below is a quote from one of our piano parents. Please take the time to tour Martin Guitar in Nazareth if you have the time. It is in expensive & you can tour the museum with your tour ticket!
"Hi Renee!
Just wanted to tell you we went to the Martin guitar factory yesterday and it was so interesting! I’m glad you told us about it in one of your e-mails. The kids were really impressed (me, too!)."

Play A Thon...
Happy Belated Valentine's Day!
Happy Birthday to our Miss Mackenzie & George Washington!
Happy President's Day!
The students are collecting donations for the Annual Play A Thon at the mall. If you would like your donation to be given to a particular student, I can handle that for you. If you would like your donation to be divided among the 15 students who are performing, I can handle that for you too!
To the students.... please time yourself playing your songs in order. Please plan on 10 minutes of music. The music does not need to be memorized. You MUST turn your donations in at the registration table before coming to the stage. Please check in with Tom at our stage area. I will be with the student who is performing during their allotted time.
I am working on setting up a Composition Class at a separate location. for all of our students who are in Level 1 books & beyond in elementary school (if there is an interest for older students - we can arrange a separate class). There will be a small fee. This class would take place on a Friday early evening in early spring. Please let me know if you are interested. Stay tuned for details.
I am working on setting up an Anatomy of the Piano class for our students, spouses and parents. The class would be taught by Peter Becker at Noble Art (you may follow their blog & visit their website). This class will take place on a weekend afternoon this early spring. This class will be free to our students. Please let me know if you are interested. Stay tuned for details.
I putting together a rough draft of a summer schedule. Please contact me if your lesson time needs to change.

Life at The Bordner House
On a really light note, (no pun intended here) last week I had three different students talk about staying here and/ or wanting to live at the Bordner House. I have never had a student mention this before; so I found it ironic. I am flattered that some of our students believe that the Bordner House is full of Hi 5's, Way to Go's, Stickers, Lollipops, Tootsie Rolls, Games, & Singing every time a page is turned! Please be assured the Bordner kids do have chores to do & they are NOT rewarded in such a manner EVERY time! Some things are simply expected here from our children :) I do believe our piano students should be rewarded & lessons here and it should be a ton of fun! If a student is having a great time, building their music theory knowledge, increasing their skills and building their self confidence, then I am doing my job! Enjoy your day!

The Weekend in Review...
Hello!
I was fortunate enough to attend TWO piano lectures this weekend! I am excited to implement a few new ideas!
The first is a possible Composition Club. I would invite students who want to learn how to compose their own pieces & improve upon their current skills to join us for a group session. Perhaps we would do this 1 time only, quarterly or monthly or something along those lines.
The second is a class called "The Anatomy of a Piano" for our students & their parents.
Stay tuned!
