Mozart
Happy Birthday to Mozart!
Here is a brief excerpt from Wikipedia:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (German: [ˈvɔlfɡaŋ amaˈdeus ˈmoːtsaʁt], English see fn.;[1] 27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791), baptised as Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart,[2] was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era.
Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. At 17, he was engaged as a court musician in Salzburg, but grew restless and travelled in search of a better position, always composing abundantly. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He chose to stay in the capital, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years in Vienna, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of his death. The circumstances of his early death have been much mythologized. He was survived by his wife Constanze and two sons.
He composed over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers, and his influence on subsequent Western art music is profound; Beethoven composed his own early works in the shadow of Mozart, and Joseph Haydn wrote that "posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years."[3]

Adult Piano Student Wine & Cheese Event
On Friday evening, four of our adult students and their significant others joined my husband and I in the piano rooms for our first "Adult Piano Student Wine & Cheese Event".
Over the years, I have discovered that piano can be a "lonely hobby". Because there are so many other activities for people to choose from, sometimes it can be challenging to students to find others to connect with to chat about their frustrations and successes at the piano. I have also discovered that this is especially true for our Adult Piano Students. So, I planned this event for our adult students to see if this could provide them with an opportunity to talk with other adult students. I also wanted to provide a forum for our adult students to perform that was different than the big Winter Holiday Recital I put together for our younger students.
I planned the event for two hours and was uncertain as to how it would actually go. I think I know the answer to my own question, as our guests were here for over four hours!
I must say there was a lot of laughter. There were a lot of piano related discussions. There many other discussions too! Our guests ate, drank and seemed to have a terrific time. There even was some piano playing for each other! One guest brought a guitar and gave us a little performance too!
So, a big thank you shout out to our adult students and their significant others for joining us for a really fun filled evening.
I am already making plans for our next Adult Student Event...

New Year = New Piano Resolutions
A new year means new resolutions for many people. How are you doing with your new year's resolutions? Do you need help with keeping your resolutions that involve piano? So far, so good here! But then again it is easy for me because I am blessed with a piano studio full of fantastic students.
I am working on goal setting with our students. It is really a lot of fun, especially since I get to explain what a goal is to some students, then talk about why it is important to set goals and create action plans on how we will accomplish these goals. Of course some students think a goal is when you score in a soccer game. I love it - it is a great analogy to use! A new year resolution is just like trying to score a "goal" in a soccer game to win the game. Soccer players need to practice and do a few drills before the big soccer game. Our piano players are just like soccer players - we need to practice and do a few drills before the big recitals, festivals and competitions too! Our recitals are just like our soccer games. It is just that we can practice inside when it is raining outside. ;)
Good luck to you with your new goals!
